The Gemilang Association of Tutong feted its members, as well as committee members of the recent Tutong Motor Carnival 2006, to a dinner at the Tutong Civic Centre on Tuesday night. Present as guest of honour was the Tutong District Officer, Abdul Mutalib bin Hj Md.Idris, who is also the patron of the association.
The Tutong Motor Carnival 2006 was held from August 25-27, and attracted thousands of visitors. It was organised to mark His Majesty's 60th birthday celebration this year.
The Gemilang Association was appointed as the event manager of the carnival.
The chairman of the organising committee, Ayub bin Hj Suhaili, in his welcoming remarks told the audience that all participating car dealerships at the 3-day carnival enjoyed a 23 per cent increase in their sales, compared to the months previously.
In his speech, the District Officer congratulated all who made the carnival a success. Gemilang Association could become a local pioneer in the management of major events, as witnessed by its organisation of the Tutong Motor Carnival, Awg Abd Mutalib added.
Appreciation certificates were later presented to sponsors, participating car dealerships, entertainers and committee members by Awg Abd Mutalib. He also presented the "Komiti Contoh" merit award to Dr. Hj Anjah bin Hj Abdul Rahman and Awg Maaruf bin Pawi.
Also present at the gala was a member of the Legislative Council, Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Hj Mohd Taha bin Hj Raub, who was also the chairman of the Pesta Rakyat for the Tutong District.
The Gemilang Association was established in 2004. It is a non-profit organisation, aimed at youth development in the country. The association is active in 4WD activities, amateur 2-metre band radio, the media, apart from photography, and is an "experienced" manager of major functions.
